Anthropic Reports $80 Billion Loss in IPO Filing

Anthropic Discloses $80 Billion Loss as It Files for IPO
The Claude maker's revenue grew 14-fold to $16.3 billion, but spending on AI training and data centers drove a significant loss.
Anthropic, the AI company behind the Claude chatbot, revealed an $80 billion loss as it announced its plans to go public.
According to The Washington Post, Anthropic posted a loss of $80 billion in the first half of 2026 as it invested in training new AI models and securing data center capacity to run Claude and the coding agents it sells to businesses. At the same time, the start-up's revenue rose rapidly, from $1.16 billion in the first half of 2025 to $16.3 billion in the first half of 2026, a 14-fold increase, according to the filing it submitted on Monday.
Anthropic has submitted a registration statement on Form S-1 to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for a proposed initial public offering of its Class A shares. The company plans to list them on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the ticker "ANT," but has not yet set the number of shares or the price range.
Reports suggest that going public may help Anthropic get ahead of OpenAI and raise significant funding to speed up its growth. The company has already been expanding into new areas; for example, the company recently set up a wet lab for biology research.
