God of War confirms arrival of new mythology as gamers decode franchise's latest clue

Be careful if you’re perusing the contents of God of War Laufey’s collector box, as gamers have already used it to decode a potential new foe.

The next instalment in the God of War series isn’t all that far away, with God of War Laufey set to arrive on February 16.

God of War Laufey is set to introduce us to multiple new mythologies as Kratos’ deceased wife Faye is transported to the afterlife realm of Everywhen.

Everywhen is where gods and creatures of all pantheons end up, with this spin-off’s extended gameplay reveal already having confirmed two foes.

You may remember that Faye was shown facing off against Mongolian deity Begtse and the Egyptian deity Sekhmet.

It now appears that a third mythology has been confirmed, courtesy of God of War Laufey’s aforementioned collector box.

God of War Laufey’s Oracle Deck is as spoilery as we originally suspected

The box features an Oracle Deck consisting of 51 beautifully designed character cards.

It was only this week that we highlighted that the deck should really come with a spoiler warning.

At the time, PlayStation had only revealed the Sekhmet and Bloodstalker cards, both of which appeared in that prior gameplay reveal.

There’s very much a risk, however, that consumers will peruse the full deck on launch day and spoil the entirety of the game’s character line-up before they’ve actually rolled credits.

Since then, PlayStation appears to have spoiled the inclusion of a particular character, already having posted yet another card from the Oracle Deck to PlayStation Direct.

The card features a male individual who clearly has close ties to the sea with their scaled skin.

While this deity’s name is featured on the card, it’s written in an unknown language, but that hasn’t stopped fans from working out precisely what’s going on.

“I figured out who this character is,” said Reddit user Arkanteseu. “Looked Polynesian to me. After some research, this is likely Kaulu. If you look at the letters at the bottom, the name checks out. Five letters, with the third and fifth being the same, Kaulu.”

They went on to highlight that Kaulu is “a young Hawaiian trickster demigod who controls the weather and nature”.

“The story goes that he travelled to the land of the gods in search of his brother, Kaeha, who had been taken,” the OP said.

“He kills a couple gods in the process, so it's safe to say in the GoW universe he'll be allying with Faye to rescue his brother and return home. [...] My guess is Faye may see a bit of her husband (and son) in this boy and serve as a guiding figure to direct him away from a path of hate and revenge - but hopefully we don't go there for the millionth time.”

Of course, you should take all theories with a pinch of salt, but I personally think they’re right.

“Hopefully this game inspires interest in lesser-known mythology from different cultures,” replied Emotional_Being8594.

“Okay, you cooked bro,” added StepBro-007.

User SeashoreAndMountains replied, “That DOES seem to check out,” with plenty of others piling on praise and validation.

This is an awesome spot. I just hope PlayStation and Santa Monica don’t reveal too many more cards and keep some secrets- well, secret.
