Hogwarts Legacy school system add-on is in the works, and it's precisely what a sequel needs
Hogwarts Legacy built solid foundations upon which future instalments can build, but there’s a reason the game’s opening 10 hours or so are the best.
It’s during this portion of the Wizarding World title that the narrative tasks you with living the life of a student, attending classes to learn new spells all while acquainting yourself with Hogwarts Castle and partaking in extracurricular activities like Crossed Wands, Summoner’s Court, and Broom Trials.
This is the fantasy many Harry Potter fans have dreamt of living out for years, yet once you’ve mastered all of the game’s spells - outside of the Unforgivable Curses - the experience quickly shifts to being your run-of-the-mill RPG with a repetitive open world.
CurseForge modder user_jd8yyfth0ndxlhbo is in the midst of trying to change that, with mod ‘HogwartsSchool’ currently in development - although we’re hoping Avalanche Studios is working on something similar for Hogwarts Legacy’s sequel.
‘HogwartsSchool’ is listed as a private test build for now, but it’s certainly something many will be keen to see come to light in full, especially if the mod project’s description is anything to go by.
The mod aims to introduce “real Hogwarts classes you attend year by year” that include active participation rather than just simply being a cutscene.
Lessons will be delivered to players by owl; you’ll then need to watch professors give lectures, with all lessons ending in spell practice. The test build features week one’s charms classes, provided by Professor Ronen.
Players will be able to talk to their classmates alongside putting what they’ve learned into practice with new lessons following the next day, like a real-life school week.
Again, ‘HogwartsSchool’ very much remains in development with modder user_jd8yyfth0ndxlhbo hoping to add the remainder of the eight first-year subjects soon.
They’ll then move on to later school years, including OWL and NEWT exams, with all lessons, lectures, and textbooks featuring original writing.
The mod is listed as single-player only, so there’s no multiplayer component modded in, and it “works best with a save that is past the opening of the story, so owl post is working”.
Hogwarts Legacy’s sequel needs to improve its side quests, but that’s not a difficult task
Undoubtedly, it’s this kind of thing that fans of Hogwarts Legacy are hoping to see in the game’s inevitable sequel.
As you progress within Hogwarts Legacy, the experience dulls. The narrative and combat is entertaining enough, but the open world is incredibly guilty of reusing assets.
Every ruin, cave, Merlin Trial, and hamlet begins to feel the same; the game’s opening, where you do briefly attend classes, is the complete opposite, with every new story quest feeling new and exciting.
Hogwarts Legacy saw our main character join Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in what is typically the fifth year of study.
A sequel would presumably take place in the penultimate sixth-year. While the NEWT exams aren’t held until the seventh year, there’s still no reason why the game shouldn’t somewhat increase the school aspects of the gameplay systems.
We’re undoubtedly going to need to learn some new spells, and those aforementioned side activities like Summonor’s Court and Crossed Wands did not need to end after a measly three rounds.

It would be great to see a sequel fully embrace the house system, rewarding those who do want to beaver away at Hogwarts, completing side quests and minigames to earn house points.
Hogwarts Legacy’s sequel hasn’t formally been announced, but job ads have essentially confirmed its existence.
With Warner Bros. teasing that its biggest gaming franchises are returning in 2027 and 2028, Hogwarts Legacy is soon set to rear its head once more, as it's quite easily the biggest of the bunch.
