Hogwarts Legacy lands free new multiplayer offering with PvP combat on the way very soon

A sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is yet to be unveiled, with no confirmation available on whether those rumours surrounding the live-service ambitions of the franchise are true.

While many are hoping that a sequel will remain single-player, that doesn’t mean that there’s no interest in multiplayer; it should just exist as a separate entity.

That’s where HogwartsMP comes in, an unofficial multiplayer mode for Hogwarts Legacy now available to enjoy for free on PC.

There have been multiple attempts at getting multiplayer working in Hogwarts Legacy.

First came HogWarp before development was abandoned last year. A rather sketchy alternative then surfaced earlier this month, with players warned to steer well clear.

HogwartsMP, however, finally looks like the type of multiplayer mode we’ve been after with PvP combat set to be added very soon.

It goes without saying that you’ll need to be playing Hogwarts Legacy on PC if you want to join in the HogwartsMP fun. Sorry console users.

You can download the mod from the HogwartsMP website, with regular updates provided by the modding team via discord.

“The magic is better together,” the mod teases. “Return to the castle with your friends. Explore the grounds, take to the skies, and make a little magic of your own.”

PvP and full shared story progression are in the works for HogwartsMP

HogwartsMP uses proximity voice chat, making for an authentic experience as you encounter your friends in the sprawling open-world, with all player-used spells synced on the server.

“Hogwarts Legacy gave us the Wizarding World in breathtaking detail: the Great Hall, the Undercroft, the Forbidden Forest, the shifting staircases,” the modding team began.

“Hogwarts MP fills it with people. Familiar faces in the corridors. Wands raised side by side. Friends waiting in the common room. Your character, robes and spells come with you into one shared world.

“From a quiet evening by the fire to a flight across the Highlands, the best stories are the ones you make together.”

As it stands, there’s currently a server cap of five players although that could be expanded in the future.

Players are free to fly on their brooms, explore, care for magical creatures, and more together.

Plenty of other features remain in development. PvP combat is arguably the most eagerly anticipated and that’s set to become available in the mod soon.

The modding team is also working on shared story progression so players can complete a full playthrough of Hogwarts Legacy beside their pals.

It’s easily the best and most comprehensive multiplayer offering for the Harry Potter spin-off to date.

“Hogwarts Legacy online with strangers has been nuts,” wrote Reddit user tonymichaelhead, sharing their experience of the new mod offering.

“Us console players are making sad noises because this looks fun af,” replied LadyGalleth.

“Cries in PlayStation,” echoes Mcrfanatic95.

If none of your friends play Hogwarts Legacy, that’s fine. There are plenty of servers you can browse rather than playing on your own.

In fact, plenty of roleplaying servers are already appearing. The Castle Life RP has been recommended as an alternative to Gmod, if that’s something you’re into.

It now awaits to be seen what’s next from Avalanche Studios and Warner Bros. Games.

With HBO’s Harry Potter TV series set to debut this December, there’s no better time to reveal a Hogwarts Legacy sequel than while Pottermania is back at full power.
