PC owners need to secure this $2 survival masterpiece before its too late

Despite playing hundreds of games throughout my life, there have been very few that I’ve been willing to revisit, but one of my all-time favourites is currently $2 on PC and a must-play this month.
Games that can be completed quickly, from Dark Souls to Sonic Adventure 2, are my bread and butter when it comes to replaying stuff, as I’d much rather play something brand-new than revisit a game where I know the score.
Dying Light, however, is a notable exception in my library. It’s a game that you can beat quickly, especially on New Game+, but one I rarely want to. It’s just so, so compelling for me.
After playing Dying Light: The Beast last year, I revisited the first game in the series, and it’s still one of the best games I’ve ever played, even now.
It’s currently discounted on Steam for a mere $2, which is nuts for a game you can easily lose 100 hours to.
The offer's valid from the time of writing to November 9, so you've got time to add this one to your library if it's not there already. It also means you've got time to play it before Grand Theft Auto VI consumes all of our lives...
Dying Light is worth so much more than $2, but this is the perfect entry point for new players
While you might be tempted to jump into Dying Light: The Beast first, don’t. It’s a great game and one you should play one day if you haven’t already, but not before the first game, as it’s a direct continuation of its story.
I’d steer clear of Dying Light 2: Stay Human for a bit too. It’s worth playing nowadays after all of its post-launch updates, but it’s nowhere near as good as the original, I’m afraid.
Dying Light, however, is a masterpiece in every sense of the word. Roger Craig Smith brings Kyle Crane to life in such a beautiful way. His performance stands on a tightrope between raw, emotional turmoil and well-written humour. You feel Kyle’s terror as he flees the ravenous horde of infected and can laugh at his impatience once he’s back in his comfort zone.
Roger Craig Smith is famous for a wide variety of gaming roles, but he recently added a new feather to his cap with Phantom Blade Zero.
The parkour hardly feels like it’s aged a day, though, which is probably why it was changed so little in future games.
It’s got that Dead Rising vibe to it. One minute you’re expertly clambering up walls with feral creatures nipping at your heels and the next you’re dropkicking generic zombies off rooftops.
Nothing feels gimmicky about it either. You unlock a lot of abilities along the way, yet it’s ultimately up to you to decide how and when to use them.
Combined with a varied mix of both weapons and infected enemies, you get a zombie-survival experience that's unrivalled in its quality. The biggest enemy of the Dying Light franchise was itself, as that sequel just couldn't stick the landing despite its best efforts.
Honestly, naming everything I love about Dying Light would take all day and that wouldn’t even touch the DLC expansion, The Following, so I’m going to hold back and tell you to discover the wonders of Dying Light for yourself.
For $2, you’re practically stealing the game from Techland; just know you’re only getting the most basic version of the game for that price. If you want The Following DLC, it’ll cost you a little more.
