Developer Shows Picturesque Winter Scene for Pixel-Art Naval Game

BartekDev showcases the process of creating their seafaring game in Godot.

Game Developer BartekDev has shown a new winter environment added to their pixel-art seafaring game, which they describe as a "small pixel-art game with ships and islands." The game is built in Godot and is the creator's debut project, which is currently in development.

According to BartekDev, the graphics are a work in progress and will probably change as development continues. The creator plans to launch a Steam page.

On X/Twitter, BartekDev documents the game's progress, showing different environments and features, including dolphins, varied weather such as storms, and ship combat. In one clip, BartekDev shares a quick tutorial on how they do sprite stacking for the game. They start by building a simple 3D reference model, make all layers in a single technique, offset them along the Z-axis, adjust the perspective, and extrude thickness to fill gaps.

In the video below, you can see how the ship made with this technique looks in the game:

For those interested in giving pixel-art objects the illusion of depth, Game Developer Teo Chhim also offers a simple tutorial on sprite stacking, which makes 2D scenes look three-dimensional. Also, check out a guide on making your Aseprite drawings behave like cloth using math:
