Web Design: Vitra Gift Finder by Build in Amsterdam

Build in Amsterdam's Vitra Gift Finder turns gift hunting into play — a fluid, interactive grid of Vitra's iconic accessories.

The first thing you meet is the grid itself: dozens of Vitra icons — the Eames House Bird, cork stools, plywood elephants, Panton chairs — floating in a loose circular constellation on clean white. Nothing sits in a catalogue row; every object drifts at its own scale, tagged and tappable. The filter view keeps the same lightness: pill-shaped interest tags like "Bookworm", "Couch potato" and "Art lover" cluster beside the objects, and a rainbow arc lets you sort the whole collection by colour. It feels less like shopping and more like wandering a well-curated shelf, which is exactly the point — the tool asks the right questions and guides you toward the most suitable gift instead of making you dig through categories.

Inside the Vitra Gift Finder Experience

Under the playfulness sits serious grid craft. Build in Amsterdam built a system that gives them full control over a large number of products — fine-tuning the positioning and scaling of every single element, all the way down to the fluid animations between states. A smart GUI let the client and the design team test the grid in real time, which is how the motion ended up feeling effortless rather than engineered. Typography stays quiet and functional throughout: small clean sans labels on the interest tags, product names set plainly, generous white space doing the compositional heavy lifting so nothing competes with the objects themselves.

The product display page continues the fluid logic — swipe through tags, swap products, pull up more product images without ever leaving the flow. A wishlist lets you bookmark favourites, share them with a friend, and come back to them anytime, which turns the finder into something closer to a gift-planning tool than a storefront. Desktop and mobile share the same design language: the dense circular grid on large screens becomes a single scrolling column of product cards on small ones, and the whole thing runs on a headless, scalable architecture built for real-world traffic.
